My latest project for Curiodyssey in California brings the state’s stunning natural beauty to life with two illustrated boards.
These displays highlight every species’ essential role in our ecosystem and aim to inspire a deeper connection with nature.
Newt looked up at the sky, then gazed downward, taking in all that was around her.
"Owl, she exclaimed, "I'm thankful for the plants and animals that share my home. We all do our part so there's enough food to eat, clean water to swim in, and good soil for plants to grow."
“We’re one big family,”Newt added thoughtfully.
“Yes,” said Owl.
“Everything is connected. All living things breathe the same air, drink from the same rivers, and eat fruit from the same trees.
Everyone thrives when we care for each other and the wild spaces we share.”

First display: a mixed-media wildlife board
The first display is a mixed-media piece that artfully combines illustration with photography. It presents a detailed view of Californian woodlands, highlighting native species –
the Western Pond Turtle, Burrowing Owl, California Newt, and Grey Fox. The blend of hand-drawn elements and real photos creates an immersive and captivating experience,
allowing visitors to explore the intricate web of the woodland ecosystem.
Second display: a fully illustrated wildlife board
The second display is entirely illustrated, showcasing the vibrant and diverse wildlife of the region. The vivid artwork captures the essence of California’s natural habitats, making it an appealing and engaging piece for visitors of all ages.
These illustrated wildlife displays go beyond being informative—they are works of art that honour California’s wildlife and our planet.
By merging detailed illustrations with photography, I’ve created an educational tool that is both visually striking and deeply engaging.
This project highlights the impact of visual storytelling in wildlife education, enhancing the zoo experience and fostering a greater conservation awareness.
